Just a quick reminder that you can still renew your U.S. passport and ask for it to be expedited and you miiight get it back before the inauguration. Here’s the State Department page on passports.
And according to Emily Quinn on Bluesky, as of right now (until January 20), “changing a gender marker on an existing passport is self ID—no medical evidence necessary, no matching state ID needed.” Here’s the State Department page she cites.
Relatedly, Metro DC DSA Queer and Trans Liberation is hosting a Legal Gender Marker Clinic starting at 7 pm on January 3 “for residents of DC, Maryland, and Virginia who would like, or need, guidance and assistance navigating the process of changing their gender marker.” They further note:
We can’t provide direct legal advice, but we will explain how the process works and the steps involved. We will provide information about the necessary forms for initiating the process. We’ll happily help you fill out the forms and explain the process, as well as the follow-up steps for updating your passport, social security, state-level ID, and birth certificate.
Check it out here. (via John Breen on Bluesky and Tucker Lieberman.)
