The No Kings march in Manhattan on Saturday was mind-blowing. After spending time with the glorious Indivisible Brooklyn and New York Working Families Party crews, I climbed up on a concrete planter and just watched the crowd stream past – thousands upon thousands of New Yorkers with homemade signs and endless enthusiasm, anger, and joy.
You can see a huge thread of my photos on Bluesky – or check out a bunch on my Instagram page.
Maybe my favorite of all the signs I saw read “ACTION ABSORBS ANXIETY.” I’ve never seen a truer slogan on any sign!
So if you’re looking for your next PRACTICAL ACTION after the No Kings marches, here are a few suggestions for you (with an NYC emphasis)!
First, if you’re on Bluesky and in NYC, here’s a starter pack of groups, activists, journalists, and electeds who are working for progressive change in our city. Folks at Indivisible like to say they want us all to find our organizing homes, the local groups that we can work with to help make things better. You don’t have to get involved with every group or issue that’s out there – no one can do everything! But as the great Mariame Kaba says, we can all pick our lanes and do something. Check out that starter pack and see what appeals to you!
Second, check out the great Megan Piontkowski’s “We Marched! Now What?” zine – which has lots of tremendous suggestions – and which you can print out, fold, and give out to friends!
And then save these dates and sign up for this stuff!
10/21 – Indivisible, the main No Kings organizer, has a mass call at 8 pm ET this Tuesday! This is a big deal and I’m sure they’ll lay out some big plans for next steps – sign up here!
10/29 – Hands Off NYC, a coalition of dozens of groups working to resist Trump’s plans to persecute immigrants in our city, is planning something big for 11/8 and will be having a kickoff call to discuss it starting at 7 pm on 10/29. Sign up for the call today!
11/8 – Save this date for Hands Off NYC’s Day of Community Action! Here’s the Indivisible Brooklyn signup form! (And yes, I drew the image and designed the graphic for this one, ha ha!)

There’s ALWAYS something we can do, friends. Big hearts and keep on moving!
