Mr. Mayor, please stop posting on X and please require all city agencies and officials to stop posting on X, or at the VERY least to only post emergency notices on X and cross post everything on Bluesky and other social media not controlled by right wing bigots. Look at what Elon Musk did last night as racist rioters targeted immigrants in Belfast. What’s to stop him from doing that here? This is a public safety issue. You have a clear responsibility here. PLEASE lead and get the hell off of X

Dear Mayor Mamdani,
I am writing to implore you to personally stop posting on X and to require all city agencies and officials to stop posting on X, or at the VERY least, to only post emergency notices on X and cross post everything on Bluesky and Mastodon and other social media not controlled by right wing bigots.
Last night, rioters broke windows and set fire to houses of immigrants in Belfast. As DPA reports, “Musk shared lists on X of locations where protests could take place – also posted by far-right activist Tommy Robinson – and retweeted Restore Britain leader Rupert Lowe’s post saying ‘Millions must go’….'”

What’s to stop Musk from doing the same in the US? There must be a line. Please lead the way and get New York City the hell off that hatemongering website.

So the city is endangering us by requiring people who want updates from the city to give their private information to a hatemongering billionaire. The city is endangering us by exposing people to Musk’s bigoted propaganda. And the city is endangering us by building up Elon Musk’s power by giving him financial support for bigotry and racism.
I understand that the city has a responsibility to reach as many New Yorkers as possible with emergency notices. If you need to continue posting those on X for public safety reasons, then you have an obligation to post those on non-billionaire-owned social media sites like Bluesky and Mastodon as well. And I implore you to post NOTHING but emergency notices on X and encourage people to go elsewhere.
