NYC: Call your city councilperson and tell them to kill the “A.I.” bot that’s providing false information

This morning, The Markup published a report saying that an “A.I.” powered chatbot provided by New York City is providing false answers to legal questions about “housing policy, worker rights, and rules for entrepreneurs.” Here’s just one example from the article:

The bot, for example, said it was legal to lock out a tenant, and that “there are no restrictions on the amount of rent that you can charge a residential tenant.” In reality, tenants cannot be locked out if they’ve lived somewhere for 30 days, and there absolutely are restrictions for the many rent-stabilized units in the city.

If this makes you sick, I encourage you to call your city councilperson and tell them to publicly call for this bot to be junked. As an added bonus, you might suggest that the money spent on it should be put back into the budget for public libraries.

You can find your city councilperson and their contact information here.
