Folks often say they have Republican reps so there’s no point in calling them. Well, today’s your day to shine! Under Trump and Musk, the National Institutes of Heath just announced that they’re cutting CANCER and ALZHEIMER’S research funding. From the NYT:
The policy targets $9 billion in so-called indirect funds that the N.I.H. sends along with direct funds to support research into basic science and treatments for diseases ranging from cancer to Alzheimer’s to diabetes.
Call your Republican U.S. senators and rep — you can find them at reps.fyi — or call the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121.
If you have a regional accent, make the most of it.
Tell them you didn’t vote for CANCER and ask them what the hell they’re gonna do to stop Musk and Trump.
Don’t believe people who tell you calls to reps don’t matter. This is a message that will make them scared about their political future. This is absolute normie stuff that affects Republican and Democrats alike. They need to get thousands of calls about this.
Here’s a very simple script. Feel free to adjust for your needs.
I just read that Musk and Trump are cutting billions of N.I.H. funding for cancer and Alzheimer’s research. I DIDN’T VOTE FOR CANCER! Are you supporting this? What are you doing to stop them from making these cuts? You gotta fix this and restore this N.I.H. funding, now!
Feel free to tell them about your family’s experience with cancer or Alzheimer’s. Tell them you didn’t vote for more cancer and Alzheimer’s.
If they try to tell you Trump is only cutting “indirect costs,” you can cite Dr. Megan Raney and tell them indirect costs are essential to research. Or you can just tell them not to lie to you. Tell them everyone knows Trump and Musk are cutting cancer research funding. Tell them you need your reps to be on your side, and they’re not, and if they don’t push back on Trump and Musk and restore funding to the N.I.H., they’re gonna lose their jobs.
And if you have Democratic reps who are voting for ANYTHING Trump proposes, call them up with the same message and demand they shut it all down. Tell your Democratic senators in particular to stop voting for Trump nominees and shut down the Senate by demanding quorum calls and denying unanimous consent whenever possible.
